The hacking claims prompted Kenya's Election Commission to react and counter the allegations, assuring Kenyans that "all is well".

Nasa co principal Musalia Mudavadi flanked by Raila Odinga and other Nasa leaders have released a statement regarding results for the presidential race.

A dispute over election results in Kenya that has pitted supporters of incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta against his rival, Raila Odinga, intensified on Thursday, with the opposition presenting what it says is evidence of tampering with the electronic voting system.

Kenya's electoral commission denied the allegations, with one official telling Reuters that the opposition did not have "any credible data" on the results.

Nairobi- Kenya slipped a little deeper into violence on Wednesday after the former prime minister Raila Odinga rebuffed the final results of the recent presidential elections.

Instead, the election board was displaying a running tally on its website that showed President Uhuru Kenyatta leading with 55 percent of the vote to Odinga's 44 percent after almost three-quarters of polling stations had reported results.

Former US Secretary of State John Kerry, who is leading a group from the Carter Center, an worldwide democracy promotion group led by former President Jimmy Carter, told journalists: "We believe the IEBC put in place a detailed, transparent process of voting, counting, reporting and securing the vote, all of which lends significant credibility and accountability".

Global observers on Thursday gave the thumbs-up to the election, and US ambassador Robert Godec issued a statement on behalf of the diplomatic community calling for the election commission to be given time to complete its work.

The slain election official was working for the ruling Jubilee party, Hassan Barisa, a resident of Hola in Galole, said.

Global election observers say they have seen no signs of interference with the vote.

The European Union election observer mission in Kenya said on Thursday it had seen no signs of "centralised or localised manipulation" of the voting process.

Demonstrator Sebastian Omolo, a supporter of Mr Odinga, said: 'He is not accepting the results and that is why we are on the streets but police have started shooting'.

"We have caught them".

The opposition's claim has led to sporadic outbreaks of violence. Many people believed he was rigged out of victory and 1,200 people were killed.

Business is still slow in Nairobi 48 hours after the disputed election results were announced as many remain fearful of the aftermath.
