Hit Records For Global Temperature And Climate Extremes

During the state’s recent drought the Almaden Reservoir in San Jose went dry revealing in 2014 a car that had been dumped in the lake. The federal government’s latest National Climate Assessment says California can expect more extreme swings between

Earlier this week, however, a draft copy of the National Climate Assessment produced by 13 federal agencies made an unequivocal connection between weather extremes and human-produced greenhouse gases. He said that while federal reports documenting the extent of climate change might not capture the public's attention, they can help persuade local officials to better prepare for future storms, floods and other challenges.

The report is the most comprehensive assessment of climate change released by the Trump administration.

Numerous findings have been previously released, including that 2016 was the hottest year on record for the third consecutive year.

Trump's advisers have plans to hold a public debate with researchers about global warming and climate change. Record-high temperatures were measured below the surface of the permafrost, or permanently frozen ground, across the North Slope of Alaska.

"Global climate is projected to continue to change over this century and beyond".

All assessed studies contain extinction predictions and focus on multiple species - noting that most of the climate-biodiversity models used define extinction as species habitat falling below a critical limit, yet, as the author notes, often ignore further complexities as species interactions (both ecosystem interdependance and competition), dispersal differences and evolution.

The New York Times was forced to issue a correction on Wednesday after a much-hyped report on the Trump administration supposedly attempting to hide a climate change report didn't live up to the expectations they claimed.

"Surface temperature and carbon dioxide concentration, two of the more publicly recognized indicators of global-scale climate change, set new highs during 2016", the report explains, "as did several surface and near-surface indicators and essential climate variables".

Diamond declined to discuss the politics of climate change, but said that generally he remains "concerned that we may not be taking it seriously as we should". She responded, "I said, NO - why bother?"

"When you set record after record after record, it's very extreme and it's cause for concern", said Jessica Blunden, a NOAA climatologist and lead editor of the new report. The agreement, spearheaded by Trump's predecessor Barack Obama, and signed by 195 countries in April 2016, aims to fight climate change by reducing carbon emissions and limiting global temperature rises to below 2 degrees Celsius.

"Global temperature appears to be running behind 2016, comparable to 2015", said Deke Arndt, one of the report's co-authors.

Sea temperatures keep getting higher. Global seas are about 3.25 inches higher than the 1993 average when satellite recording began.

- The Arctic is warming faster than the rest of the world. These glaciers have lost the equivalent of cutting a 70-foot thick slice off the top of the average glacier. Though this avoids the most alarming scenarios scientists have previously considered, it also excludes the least concerning, finding virtually no chance the Earth will keep warming below the desirable level of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
