Rex Tillerson says Russia's election interference has 'created serious mistrust'

Opening ceremony of the 50th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Regional Forum

Tillerson's promise of a US response followed his Sunday meeting in the Philippines with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, where the secretary of state said he asked his Russian counterpart "several clarifying questions".

Lavrov met with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on the sidelines of a series of ASEAN ministers' meetings in the Philippine capital, Xinhua reported.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says the approval of new United Nations sanctions targeting North Korea over its nuclear and ballistic missile programs is a "very good outcome".

This led to Congress passing fresh US sanctions against Russian Federation last month that has led to Moscow moving to expel hundreds of USA diplomats and seize two USA facilities in Russian Federation.

"This will be in this way from now on".

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday that despite tensions with Washington, he believed his U.S. colleagues were prepared to keep communication lines open with Moscow.

In a harsh readout of the Tillerson-Lavrov meeting on Sunday, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the sanctions bill "could jeopardize global stability and deals a powerful blow to prospects for bilateral cooperation".

"There's been no belligerence", he said of his dealings with Lavrov. "The Russians have indicated some willingness to begin to talk with us about the way forward on Ukraine".

Lavrov's upbeat assessment came amid what the USA has called a diplomatic low point unseen since the end of the Cold War.

Recall about eight days ago, that the United States Senate approved additional measures to expand economic sanctions against Russian Federation, as well as against Iran and North Korea.

"We will, of course, intensify work related to import substitution, reduction of dependence on USA payment systems, on the dollar as a settling currency and so on". Washington has said a few times that it does not rule out any type of response to North Korea's problem, including a military one.

The relationship between Russia and the United States of America have become strained after the information given by the U.S. intelligence agencies about Russian interference to the US elections in 2016.

Asked how the US can support the Philippine government in its fight against ISIS without endorsing human rights abuses in President Rodrigo Duterte's bloody crackdown on drugs, Tillerson said there was no conflict.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has the unenviable task of exploring U.S. The sanctions bill targets Russia's mining and oil industry and aims to punish the country for interfering in the 2016 presidential election as well for its military aggression in Ukraine.

"The contacts between our representatives are also conducted in this area, including over the development of the agreement, reached by Russian Federation, the United States and Jordan on the creation of the southern de-escalation zone in Syria".

The White House said Trump's opposition stemmed from the bill's failure to grant the president sufficient flexibility on when to lift sanctions.

"Lavrov called on all parties concerned... to urgently initiate a search for a political and diplomatic settlement through a comprehensive solution to the problems on the peninsula, including its denuclearization", according to a statement carried by the Russian foreign ministry.
