Luis Fonsi's Despacito Dethrones See You Again As YouTube's Most Watched Video

Wiz Khalifa's 'See You Again' is no more most viewed video on YouTube

"See You Again" had a brief reign, having taken over from the long-time favourite "Gangnam Style" just last month.

With the huge popularity that "Despacito" has seen in only seven months, it looks like this might be a pretty tough record for future artists to break, but stranger things have happened.

Billboard reports that Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito" has broken the record for YouTube's most popular video ever and it hasn't even been a year! and it hasn't even been in this world for a year.

When Luis Fonsi composed Despacito, little did he know that it will become the most-watched YouTube video of all time.

"See You Again", which became the most watched video in July, has also reached three-billion views, but needs almost 70 million views to catch up with "Despacito".

But YouTube appears to be underpinning the song's popularity on all platforms: the remix starring Justin Bieber is still getting 4.3m+ daily plays on Spotify for example, with the original version adding another 1.9m+ on that service.

"Thank you YouTube for 'Despacito's success". It is also officially the first song to reach three billion YouTube views. "Breaking a record is overwhelming and I'm happy to keep inspiring others to do the same", said Daddy Yankee.

It said more than one-third of YouTube's top 100 most viewed artists of 2017 are Latino stars, including J Balvin, Nicky Jam, Maluma and Ozuna, who each have videos that have surpassed 1 billion views this year.
