Samsung Galaxy S8 Active goes official: Everything you should know

The Galaxy S8 Active is the beefier version of Samsung's flagship phone

Samsung's Galaxy S8 Active is shock-resistant, shatter-resistant, water-resistant, and dust-resistant.

After numerous leaks and rumors, the Galaxy S8 Active is now official.

The S8 active will be in U.S. stores on Aug 11 in either Meteor Gray or Titanium Gold.

The smartphone comes with a 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with the screen ratio of 18.5:9, similar to that of the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

Samsung has released "Active" versions of its last five Galaxy S phones and has also produced other durable versions of products meant for rugged lifestyles, like its Gear S3 smartwatch, which is also resistant to the elements including extreme heat. Interestingly, Samsung says that AT&T will have exclusivity over the S8 Active only "for a limited time".

The current going rate on the phone is about $850, which would break down into payments of just over $28 per month for 30 months - or at least this is what AT&T is offering.

Want to pre-order? AT&T is hosting a bunch of promos to sweeten the deal if you do.

Samsung has found it extremely hard of late to contain inside information spills on not just the highly anticipated Galaxy Note 8, but the slightly lower-profile Galaxy S8 Active as well. The fingerprint scanner is still located at the rear, and the phone also comes with Samsung's Bixby virtual assistant.

Keeping aside the display and the look of the handset, what makes the phone out-of-the-box is its massive battery setup, which the company claims to deliver a long lasting battery backup. While that likely means other USA carriers will get the phone soon, that would be a first for the Active range. Further, the upcoming phones like Galaxy Note 8, Nokia 8, LG V30 are also expected to be powered by the same processor.
