Mueller Looks at Whether Flynn Was Secretly Paid by Turkey

Members of the sweeping federal investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller requested the White House submit documents linked to Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn according to the the New York Times

But the investigation team led by special counsel Robert Mueller want to know if the Turkish government was behind the payments or if Mr Alptekin was bribed to hide the source of the money, according to the New York Times.

The New York Times report said investigators want to know if that money was paid on behalf of the Turkish government, and whether payments were made to the businessman to keep secret the source of said money.

The New York Times reported Friday night that investigators working for special counsel Robert Mueller have asked the White House for documents concerning ousted national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Mr Flynn, a former lieutenant general in the U.S. army, failed to register as a foreign agent when Flynn Intel Group signed a $600,000 contract with Mr Alptekin's Dutch company Inovo BV in August 2016.

The document request, while not a formal subpoena, was the latest signal that the probe is gathering pace.

Neither has the White House or Flynn's attorney responded to the recent reports on Mueller's investigations but one of Trump's attorneys said, "We've said before we're collaborating with the special counsel on an ongoing basis".

Taking money from Turkey or any foreign government is not illegal.

While Mueller steps up his investigation into allegations of Russian interference in 2016 United States presidential election, Trump again angrily denied that his campaign team colluded with the Kremlin.

After Flynn's dismissal, US President Donald Trump tried to get James B. Comey, the FBI director, to drop the investigation, Comey said.

Mr. Flynn is at the centre of suspicions about a possible involvement of Russian.

Mr. Trump has publicly warned Mr. Mueller that his financial affairs should not enter in the framework of its mission and that investigating them would be tantamount to crossing a red line.
