The Secret Service No Longer Has A Command Post Inside Trump Tower

Donald Trump's government and Trump's company had not been able to agree on the cost of the lease and its conditions

Anyway, Donald Trump's apartment at Trump Tower in Manhattan is still technically his permanent home, and the Secret Service must protect it as such.

The Secret Service has vacated Trump Towers following a lease dispute.

Sources familiar with the discussions told The Washington Post on Thursday that the government is now looking for a new place to house the Secret Service command center after President Trump's company refused to let the agency stay at his place.

Sources close to the dispute told the Post that the Secret Service's relocation from a floor below Trump's apartment in his flagship NY tower to a trailer 50 feet outside the building caused the tension that led to them vacating the building.

"For reasons that involve operational security and matters of force protection, the Secret Service will not disclose the current location of our command post".

The Trump Organization's Amanda Miller described the location change as a mutual decision.

The president himself doesn't spend much time at Trump Tower these days.

President Trump has given his security teams their fair share of obstacles in the president's first several months in office.

Trump has not returned to Trump Tower since he was elected, and first lady Melania Trump and the couple's teenage son, Barron, moved out of the building and into the White House in June. Two people familiar with the discussions said the sticking points included the price and other conditions of the lease.

Last year, Trump was criticized for raising the price inside his building for a space he leased to his campaign, almost quintupling the rent when he stopped self-funding and began soliciting donations.

Experts have raised concerns about the command post, which is usually located on the same floor the president is sleeping on, being so far away from the residence.

GSA negotiated a separate, successful lease on behalf of the Defense Department in April to be used by the White House Military Office.

Now, though, it appears that a dispute over the lease is causing the Trump business to give the government organization the boot. The 3,475-square-foot space is privately owned, so Trump's company will not directly benefit from the government lease. "The only thing that made it hard it is they're bureaucratic, and it takes them forever to do anything", Anderson said.
