Zuckerberg Hire Raises Rumors of a White House Run

Talk around Mark Zuckerberg's bid for public office was sparked by his road trip through Iowa

Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly hired Hillary Clinton's pollster, Joel Benenson, as a consultant, a move that is sure to add to the growing speculation that the Facebook founder is running for political office.

Joel Benenson and his company Benenson Strategy Group will be responsible for conducting research for the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the couple's philanthropic efforts. Bringing on Benenson is the latest sign that they're pushing their philanthropic work more heavily into the political and policy world.

In January, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative hired David Plouffe, the manager of Obama's successful 2008 presidential campaign and former chief adviser at Uber, as president of policy and advocacy.

While touring the country and asking people he "randomly" meets to not tell the media that he has presidential ambitions, Zuckerberg has been described as a "robot" and "alien".

Along with Plouffe, the couple also hired Amy Dudley, former communications adviser to Clinton's running mate Sen. In a statement given to the publication, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative insisted that its research is only focused on the charity's work in "science, education, housing, and criminal justice reform".

There has been public speculation that Zuckerberg could be aiming to one day enter politics, or even run for USA president.

There have always been speculations that Zuckerberg might be getting ready for a political debut. Zuck also visited a Ford assembly plant in Detroit and took a trip to OH, all while taking pictures that look fit for a candidate's website (probably because Zuck's photographer was once assigned to the White House). The consulting firm has previously worked for the American Civil Liberties Union and Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation.

Zuckerberg and Chan announced in 2015 that they would be giving 99 percent of their Facebook shares, estimated at $45 billion, to charity.
