Kam Chancellor gets contract extension

Seattle Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor talks to reporters after an NFL football training camp Monday

Assuming the new extension adds three years onto that deal as opposed to replacing it, Chancellor, 29, will be under contract with Seattle through the 2020 season. The Seahawks were 0-2 without him, but finished the season 10-4 after Chancellor returned.

In May, some thought that the Seahawks were planning to move on from Kam Chancellor after this season. Almost one year ago, Chancellor reflected on the lessons he learned from the holdout. The Norfolk, Virginia native will earn $36 million with $25 million guaranteed. During Chancellor's holdout, his backfield mate Earl Thomas recognized that Chancellor was the one tasked with lining up the legendary Legion of Boom defense. They also signed Bradley McDougald, and drafted Shaquill Griffin, Tedric Thompson, Delano Hill and Michael Tyson in the draft. However, things changed as the Seahawks reported to camp.

Chancellor indicated on Monday that the two sides were close to finalizing a deal. In addition to these numerous accomplishments, Chancellor was ranked by his peers as the 32nd-best player in the league at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season. I'm a positive guy so I'd rather just keep it on the positive end.

"As long as the wheels let me", Chancellor said (via ESPN).

Star safety Kam Chancellor has signed a multi-year extension with the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced Tuesday. "And I would love to retire here". The three-year length of the extension makes sense given Chancellor's age and his recent injury history.
