Diana turned to Queen over Charles's affair with Camilla, controversial tapes reveal

Princess Diana

Princess Diana allegedly talked about her failed marriage in the taped interviews with voice coach Peter Settelen.

A spokeswoman for Channel 4 said the tapes "are an important historical source" and that although the recordings were made in private, what was covered was in the public domain and showed how Diana prepared to tell her own personal story in her interview for Panorama.

In videos shot in the early 1990s, Diana's former voice coach Peter Steelen revealed that Prince Charles and Princess Diana had a lackluster sex life and it was all because of Charles' longtime mistress, Camilla Parker-Bowles.

Princess Diana's brother and a friend has asked Channel 4 to scrap the documentary claiming that it would hurt Diana's sons Prince William and Prince Harry and that it violates her right to privacy.

Watch Diana: In Her Own Words on Chanel 4 this Sunday, August 6 at 8pm.

"It will upset her children, her ex-husband, Camilla, the Queen and Diana would simply not want this at all", the author said. About the beginnings of their history, she tells for instance: "He [prince Charles] told me dredged, I do not let go, and I said to myself, you know, argh, you see?"

"I said, 'It's pathetic watching you walking up the aisle with Lord Mountbatten's coffin in front, ghastly".

The footage, filmed by Diana's former voice coach Peter Settelen, was purchased by Channel 4 after the BBC chose to shelve a documentary about the same videos.

Numerous objects selected to feature in the display were chosen by Diana's sons Princes William and Harry "to reflect their mother's commitment to duty and their personal memories of her", the Royal Collection Trust said last Friday.

Ralph Lee, the broadcaster's head of factual, describes the tapes as a "treasure trove" of footage marking a period in royal history as significant as Edward VIII's abdication. They were made in her Kensington Palace apartment between 1992 and 1993 to help her with public speaking.

"She loved Charles, yes, but Charles loved another woman", Allan said.

"Everybody knew about the bulimia in the family".

The BBC abandoned plans to broadcast the tapes for fear of upsetting the Royal Family in 2007 but they were aired on American TV network NBC in 2004, a move that was universally condemned.

It has been publicly condemned by Diana's close friend Rosa Monckton, who has said: "I think it's completely inappropriate that they are being shown publicly".

James O'Brien believes what the Royal Family put Harry through following the death of Princess Diana would be worthy of reporting to social services in any other family.

There's also the fact that much of the film, especially the parts about Charles and Diana's relationship, is obvious. "It doesn't matter that it was 20-odd years ago", she told The Sun.
