Dr. Luke's Lawyer Explains Subpoena Served to Lady Gaga

In 2014, the Kesha sued the Dr. Luke - alleging he drugged, raped and verbally, physically and emotionally abused her for years.

The 43-year-old's lawyers had subpoenaed Gaga to get a copy of the texts, but according to them they were so heavily redacted that they could not be read. Gaga had previously refused to be deposed in the case, but Dr. Luke's requested a subpoena in order to get Gaga to set a firm date to be deposed.

"Dr. Luke's team is attempting to manipulate the truth and draw press attention to their case by exaggerating Lady Gaga's role and falsely accusing her of dodging reasonable requests".

If this ever does happen, it'll provide some interesting fodder for the ongoing legal battle between Kesha and Dr. Luke.

Kesha's return to music is in full swing, but that doesn't mean Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald is done with his defamation case against the singer.

Outside the courtroom, Lady Gaga, who is herself a survivor of sexual assault, has been a vocal supporter of Kesha, likening Gottwald to Disney villainess Ursula. In August, she dropped her lawsuit against Dr. Luke in California in an effort to focus on creating new music, according to her legal counsel.

Musician Lady Gaga attends The 59th GRAMMY Awards at STAPLES Center on February 12, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. In April, Sony's legal department stated that Dr. Luke was "no longer the CEO of Kemosabe Records and does not have the authority to act on its behalf", effectively ending their relationship with the producer.

Yesterday, Lady Gaga's team responded to this development, saying in a statement to TMZ that "she's provided all relevant info in her possession to the court, and she isn't a key part of this suit". The lawyers say Lady Gaga's unwillingness to submit herself for deposition made further court action necessary to obtain the information they want from her.

The subpoena stems from a now-sealed text message exchange between Gaga and Kesha that was initially presented to the court back in December of 2016.

The star had remained silent after these new revelations, Dr. Luke today requires her to testify in the face of his lawyers.
