Chelsea suffer another humiliating defeat to Inter Milan

Manchester United Ivan Perisic Inter Milan Transfer News

Chelsea finished their pre-season tour of China and Singapore with a 2-1 International Champions Cup defeat to Inter Milan on Saturday - and their final fixture in the Far East will have given boss Antonio Conte plenty to contemplate.

Chelsea once again started their game very slowly and were reliant on counter-attacks - something that is clearly not working.

It was a match full of talking points involving the officials - with Stefan Jovetic getting the opening goal with a rebound from his penalty, that had been saved by Thibault Courtois.

It is quite possibly the best own goal ever seen.

In contrast, Chelsea's big-money signing Alvaro Morata was quiet on his first start since moving from Real Madrid last week and made little impact before being substituted in the 64th minute.

Conte's men weren't so fortunate on 52 minutes, when another Inter break led to Manchester Untied target Perisic driving the ball under Courtois, and Joao Mario really should have added a third when he shot straight at the goalkeeper after being teed up by Perisic.

Chelsea will now play Arsenal in the Community Shield on August 6.

Inter had taken a two-goal lead and looked comfortable after strikes by Steven Jovetic and Ivan Perisic.

Goals from Stevan Jovetic and Ivan Perisic had put Inter into a commanding lead before a freakish Geoffrey Kondogbia own goal gave Chelsea hope of a recovery, and Spalletti believes his players need to focus on keeping intensity levels high.

The fixture was an uphill battle for Chelsea from that point on, and it became increasingly hard to break down Spalletti's Nerazzurri, who appear to have formed a habit of being stubborn and stingier under their new boss.
