President Trump, on Long Island, pledges to destroy MS-13

The Trump administration is taking on the violent MS-13 gang. This is what's in the works

Attorney General Jeff Sessions also visited Suffolk County recently to discuss the same gang, which began in Los Angeles and is made up mostly of El Salvadorians, as well as people from other South American countries.

Trump's comments about police treatment of people in their custody resurrected memories of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old Baltimore man who was shackled but alive when he was put in a Baltimore police van in April 2015.

"Long Island locations reflects the reality of what is happening", said the official.

A noisy throng, including a handful of supporters, expressed its opinions amid President Donald Trump's Long Island visit Friday.

Assemblyman Phil Ramos called the speech an effort by President Trump to control a narrative that paints immigrant communities in a negative light.

"The rise in gang violence, which is ruining lives, wreaking havoc, and causing irreparable and devastating harm to families, is hitting home in the most personal and tragic way in Suffolk County, where we've seen ongoing violence perpetrated by MS-13 and other Central American gangs taking innocent lives and threatening the safety of our schools", said Mr. Zeldin in a statement issued Thursday afternoon announcing his plans to travel with the president. Mara Salvatrucha has a presence across Central America and in the U.S.as well.

In stark language, Trump said MS-13 members have stabbed, raped and murdered young people and "transformed peaceful parks and lovely quiet neighborhoods into blood-stained killing fields".

Addressing illegal immigrants, Trump said: "We will find you, we will arrest you, we will jail you, and we will deport you".

Local police said there have been 17 MS-13-linked murders in the past 18 months in Suffolk County, where Trump spoke. Most have an affiliation with MS-13. Investigators said Cuevas had been feuding verbally with gang members.

"Today we are all LGBT", said David Kilmnick, chief executive officer of the LGBT Network.

Homan acknowledged that Trump had broadened the pool of undocumented immigrants considered a priority for removal, but he said the numbers are misleading because the Obama administration had sought to protect broad categories of immigrants from deportation.

Cuevas" mother told News 4 in tears Friday, "Kayla used to tell me in anything I was doing, "Mom, I always got your back.' So I know up in heaven, she really does have our back".
