Gunaratne in doubt for rest of India Test series

The culture in our dressing room is fantastic, says Virat Kohli

India began their dream run in Tests under Virat Kohli by winning the Test series against Sri Lanka two years ago. He was able to complete the over but didn't return to bowl for the rest of the session.

Shikhar Dhawan was left hurt after being dropped from the Indian Test team but says he remained confident of making his way back into the longest format sooner than later.

The tour comprises of three Tests, five One Day Internationals (ODIS) and one Twenty20 International (T20I). Kohli has matured into an astute captain, Sri Lanka on the other hand, have slipped drastically in the Test arena.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed 10 runs short of another double century but Pujara stands well set to take India to a mammoth score. Within the first half-hour it was clear that this would be a run-fest. He then brought up his hundred in 110 deliveries.

India's seasoned opener Murli Vijay is not playing this series due to wrist injury, another opener KL Rahul has been ruled out of the first test owing to viral fever. Dhawan, along with Cheteshwar Pujara, are now taking the team ahead, as they look to post a huge total. He had scored at an awe- inspiring strike rate of 91.81 until then, and accelerated once he crossed this landmark.

He crossed 150 off 147 balls, with another eight boundaries.

The 31-year-old left-hander put on 88 for the unbroken second wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara (37 not out) as the visitors reached 115-1 after electing to bat.

But it wasn't to be as he miscued a shot straight to Angelo Mathews at mid-off off Nuwan Pradeep (3-64) minutes before the tea break, and threw away his wicket needlessly.

Since that innings in 2015, Dhawan had crossed half-century just once before his blitzkrieg on Wednesday.

India, in contrast, are a team of superstars, each player not only having a unique brand of cricket, but a distinct way of expressing himself, in words, in attire, in attitude and demeanour.

For Sri Lanka, Pradeep was the lone successful bowler as he scalped all the three-wickets to fell. They were asked to chase a score of 642 to take the lead and Sachin Tendulkar ensured that there would be no problems for India to do so.

At 39, Rangana Herath has found supreme joy in belated achievements. He had slowly built his innings around Dhawan with single.

The pair looked to attack against spin but after a few misses, settled down to form a partnership.

In the recent two match Test series against Bangladesh at home, Herath picked up 16 wickets.

While India's preparation for the series was dominated by the coach saga, the team has finally got the man - Ravi Shastri - who played a key role, off the field, to turn around India's fortune in the last Sri Lankan series.
