India should not concede ground to China

Sikkim standoff: Pak game plan in focus as envoy meets Chinese ambassador to India

In another highly provocative move, the Chinese language edition of the Communist Party-run Global Times on Friday accused external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj of lying in her statements on the Doklam stand-off.

Expressing concerns over India-China border standoff, the Pentagon has encouraged both the countries to engage in a direct dialogue to reduce tensions and free of any "coercive aspects".

Indian and Chinese troops have been locked in a face-off in the Doklam area of Bhutan for over a month after Indian troops stopped the Chinese PLA from building a road in Bhutanese territory which China covets.

Raising a few eyebrows among Indian authorities, Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit met Chinese ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui amid the military standoff between India and China in Doklam.

China has been engaging with the worldwide community to put across its stand that it is India that has been behaving aggressively in the Doklam region.

Baglay said "India's approach has been to find peaceful resolution of all matters concerning the border with China" but refused to share the details on what kind of diplomatic channels the two countries were using to ease the border tension. The minister told parliament that "both sides must pull back troops and work things out with talks" while stressing that India's action is motivated by its need to protect its security.

If China unilaterally changes the tri-junction point, then India's security is challenged.

"China can not afford to "lose an inch" of territory".

The editorial says that the military deployments and the drills held by the People's Liberation Army in the area were "not for show" and that Beijing would definitely not call back troops unless they recover the Chinese territory. The Chinese daily article said China will by never agree to withdraw its troops as a precondition for the talks.

Warning New Delhi to not be stubborn, the editorial warns of "a potentially grave escalation of tension in the future" and that India should be "prepared for all possibilities". However, China alleged India entered its territory. "China's military spending is four times that of India where its GDP volume is five times that of India", it says.

The daily has made an interesting comment that while India was harbouring deep strategic suspicion towards China, Beijing is pursuing "String of Pearls" to encircle China.

"We hope India won't repeat this mistake", it warns.

The Global Times urged India to "abandon the fantasy of a long-term standoff at Doklam", warning that otherwise China may opt to "resolve the conflict through non-diplomatic means".
