Australian Shot And Killed By Police In Minneapolis

Two officers in a cruiser pulled into the alley and met Damond in her pajamas.

Minneapolis police began wearing body cameras exactly a year ago, and department policy says they are supposed to have them turned on whenever they "reasonably anticipate that they may become involved in a situation for which activation is appropriate in accordance with this policy". On July 8, a Minneapolis cop was recorded on a surveillance camera shooting two dogs while responding to a burglary call.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating the shooting and an autopsy of the woman's body is being conducted.

Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges addressed the shooting in a statement at a news conference Sunday afternoon.

The Star Tribune quoting sources said that two officers in one squad vehicle, responding to the 911 call, pulled into the alley.

She approached the driver's side of the vehicle and was shot through the door, the newspaper said.

"If you aren't getting information from the City, it's not because we're shirking our commitment to transparency", she added on Monday morning.

She said "We all want to know more".

Alison Monaghan, who trained Ms Damond in alternative therapies, described her as "the most lovely person" who was "all about giving to other people".

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that Damond called 911 to report a suspicious noise. The friend said that Justine often spoke of how much better things were in her native Australia where gun restrictions are much tighter.

"I demand answers. I'm so done with all this violence". "This is so much bullshit".

He said he thinks that police should be trained differently.

A friend of Damond's said she moved to the United States about three years ago to be with her fiancé, The New York Times reported.

Julia Reed, who has known Ms Damond for 32 years, said her friend had brought intelligence and joy to life.

Sunday evening activists and neighborhood residents gathered near the scene of the shooting for a vigil-identifying the victim as Justine Damond, an Australian national and instructor with the Lake Harriet Spiritual Community.

"I have questions about why the bodycams weren't on", she said. "We can't even imagine LHSC without her".

At one point, an officer fired a weapon, fatally striking an adult woman.

"They were so in love", Omo said, according to the Times.

The woman was to be married to Mr Damond, 50, in August, according to Hannah, a close family friend, the Star Tribune reports.

"This is a very hard time for our family". "We are trying to come to terms with this tragedy and to understand why this happened".

Birkholz said through her classes, Damond could help people work their way through illnesses and other life problems with the help of meditation.

She said Damond was due to be married soon.
