Teenager Arrested Following A Series Of Acid Attacks In London

Teenager arrested after five hurt in London acid attacks

Four victims were taken to hospital, with one suffering "life-changing injuries", the BBC reported.

London's Metropolitan Police said the 16-year-old, who can not be named because of his age, faces 15 charges, including grievous bodily harm.

London police said Friday they had arrested another teenager after acid was thrown in people's faces in five attacks over one night here.

At around 11.05pm, the suspects tossed acid into the face of a man in Shoreditch High Street.

The second victim, a 44-year-old old man, had acid thrown in his face by two males also on a moped in St Paul's Road, N1 in Islington, near the border with Hackney, just before 10:50pm.

The assaults appeared to be linked and two involved victims having their mopeds stolen, it added.

The attacks followed a sharp uptick in the use of acid in violent attacks, with gangs reputedly using corrosive liquid as an alternative to carrying blades following a police crackdown on knife crime. Tomlin was later arrested and charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent.

An individual has been taken into custody following an acid-attack spree in east London on Thursday night. "I'm aware of rumors circulating that the victims were all food delivery riders set up in advance of the attacks". Both suspects are now being held at a north London police station.

"I was screaming for help and for water".

The number of attacks involving the use of "corrosive fluids" - including murder, robberies, and rapes - jumped from 261 in 2015 to 454 in 2016, with almost one-third of assaults carried out in east London, the BBC said. However, police described one of the victims' injuries as "life-changing".

Earlier this month, LBC reported that up to three acid attacks are reported to the London Met every week, bringing the total of incidents per year to 83.

"There were only two police officers with the victim, they took out two large water canisters and poured it over him".

"You can be riding along and they chase you on another moped". He had his moped stolen and his face sprayed with liquid.

The Home Office said it would work with police and the Ministry of Justice to assess whether powers available to the courts, including sentencing, were sufficient.

"An attack like this could happen to anyone", Khan's online petition to "prohibit the purchase of acid to those without a licence" on change.org read.
