Sen. John McCain to Miss Week in Senate After Having Surgery

Unexpected source says Obamacare isn't broken — the Trump administration

Susan Collins, R-Maine, doesn't want to proceed to the bill because it would actually address rampant Medicaid spending.

Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn said Sunday if the upper chamber can't pass the current repeal and replace Obamacare bill, the GOP may have to come up "with a different plan". They said the revisions would also help Alaska and Montana - home to three GOP senators and one Democrat.

Surgeons removed the blood clot during a "minimally invasive" procedure, the statement said.

"Senator McCain received excellent treatment at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, and appreciates the tremendous professionalism and care by its doctors and staff".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Saturday that the Senate will delay consideration of the Republican health care bill while Sen.

It wasn't clear how long McCain's recovery process would take, but the senator's office seemed to suggest that McCain would miss at least a week in the Senate. A revised version of the Bill he released earlier last week quickly drew two firm no votes - from senators Rand Paul of Kentucky and Susan Collins of ME - leaving the Kentucky Republican with no margin of error.

A close vote had already been predicted for the Republican healthcare bill, with all Democrats and independents coming out against it and some Republicans opposed or undecided.

The Senate is once again delaying its vote on the controversial effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act while Sen.

It's hard to overstate right now just how uncertain the fate of this health care bill is.

His doctors also said the surgery went "very well", and the 80-year-old Vietnam War veteran was described as being in "good spirits".

It would likely fail without Mr McCain's vote. McConnell can only lose two of his own senators, and still be able to pass the bill because a 50-50 tie means Vice President Mike Pence casts the deciding vote. Lawmakers are waiting for the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office's review early next week.

The Senate has done it's best to repeal the ACA (also known as Affordable Care Act, or Obama Care), but what will their proposal do to our most vulnerable citizens who must rely on Medicaid because they are too poor and/or are disabled and can not pay for coverage?

One major sticking point in the revised healthcare bill is a provision by Senator #Ted Cruz to appease wary conservatives.

Back in Washington with an extra week to look at the legislation, Republican senators are expected to continue deliberating with their governors and state Medicaid offices about how the GOP's health care bill will affect their states.

The question now is whether the Cruz amendment will now be scored by the CBO, given that a vote on the bill has been delayed.
