Remains of mobster accused of killing Pa. chief end long-running mystery

Human remains found in cold case involving Pa. police chief

Webb was wanted related to the 1980 murder of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, Police Chief Gregory Adams who was shot twice at close range after being brutally beaten with a blunt instrument, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.

The human remains found buried behind a MA home have been positively identified as a fugitive suspect wanted in connection to the decades-old, unsolved slaying of a Pennsylvania police chief, authorities said today.

An autopsy was being performed Friday to establish if they are the remains of career criminal Donald Eugene Webb. Investigators believe Chief Adams may have been able to shoot his killer before he was gunned down.

He was on the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List for more than 20 years.

The FBI offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to Webb or his remains, but said Friday that the reward will not be paid because Webb's remains were found as part of the investigation.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in MA positively identified the remains of Donald Eugene Webb in MA.

Little is known about Webb's whereabouts from the time of the murder until his own death, which officials now believe occurred in 1999.

Webb's auto was found in Warwick, Rhode Island after the murder.

Investigators say Webb shot Adams during a traffic stop.

Thirty-seven years later, his ex-wife Lillian Webb showed police on Thursday where her ex-husband was buried in her backyard in Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

After 37 years, the remains related to a cold-case may have been discovered.

"The man got away with murder", said Adams Jones.

Webb's remains were found buried in the back of a property located in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

"They didn't forget him - they honored the chief and despite how many years it took, the final result that's proven today - that that's Donald Eugene Webb - is a result of a lot of unbelievable work by law enforcement". "I would punch her for what she put my family through".

"What appear to be human remains have been discovered", District Attorney Thomas Quinn said at a news conference Thursday evening. The cause listed in the paperwork is "desertion".
