National Football League finally close to Ezekiel Elliott domestic violence ban

Philadelphia Eagles

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is bracing for a "short suspension" due to his involvement in a 2016 domestic violence incident, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Mike Fisher, a Cowboys insider with 105.3 The Fan, also reported on Twitter that a Cowboys source was unaware of any upcoming suspension.

Adam Schefter reported on ESPN today that Elliott and people around him are starting to conclude that the National Football League is going to suspend Elliott for the start of the season.

Elliott has been under investigation by the league since July of a year ago after his ex-girlfriend accused him of domestic violence. Elliott would then have a chance to respond.

So this entire process is expected to remain ongoing for at least a couple of weeks. "I believe Elliott is bracing for a short suspension". However, they either haven't been updated or are unwilling to comment at this juncture.

Several witnesses however would come out later to deny any assault by Elliott to her and numerous reports would end up conflicting with the victim's story and charges would end up being dropped due to "conflicting and inconsistent information" according to reports by ESPN.com's Jean-Jacques Taylor.

Elliott was cleared of any criminal charges in the case in September, when the Columbus, Ohio city attorney's office cited conflicting witness reports of the alleged assaults.

In the weeks following the allegations, Elliott said he had text messages proving he was being set up.

She was identified as his girlfriend at that time and alleged that Elliott attacked her while they were sitting in her vehicle. He visited a legal marijuana dispensary before a preseason game a year ago and was caught pulling down a woman's top at a St. Patrick's Day Parade (consensually, apparently).
