Jonathon Simmons Agrees To Three-Year Deal With Orlando Magic

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

According to a report by Shams Charania of The Vertical, Simmons has agreed to a 3-year contract with the Orlando Magic.

Simmons, 27, had been a restricted free agent before San Antonio renounced his rights with hopes of signing him to a new contract. Simmons can now sign with any team he wants without the Spurs having the right to match the offer.

The new contract will give Simmons financial stability in his National Basketball Association career.

Simmons made his breakthrough with the Spurs during the 2015-16 season, averaging 6.0 points and 1.7 rebounds per game in 55 appearances.

Simmons burst onto the scene this postseason when he stepped up big for the Spurs after Tony Parker went out with an injury and LaMarcus Aldridge decided he didn't want to make an impact. An undrafted free agent out University of Houston in 2012, he eventually made it to the National Basketball Association after trying out with San Antonio's D-League affiliate - the Austin Toros. Forbes was a revelation in the 2017 Summer League, scoring 99 points in his last three games.
