Service workers on strike Wednesday at DIA

Workers at major NYC airports prepare to strike

The workers are alleging unfair labor practices, including low wages, poor working conditions and a general lack of respect from the company.

Baggage handlers, cabin cleaners and employees who provide wheelchair services to travelers at Denver International Airport walked off the job at 4 a.m. Wednesday, but it remains unclear whether passengers will be affected. They're being represented by 32BJ Service Employees International Union.

Their complaints are aimed at contractors PrimeFlight, G2 and AirServ, which serve American Airlines, JetBlue and United.

The strikes will have a noticeable effect on all three airports, Paye said, and the company will have a hard time replacing the workers for the duration.

"While the strike is suspended as negotiations get underway, the airport workers are ready to go back on strike should talks fall apart", Hill said in the statement.

The labor dispute is between the workers and a private company, PrimeFlight Aviation Services.

PrimeFlight hasn't commented on the strike.

The workers will begin a protest at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning where they plan to deliver a petition to the Denver International Airports Chief Executive Officer.

The job actions will continue over the next three days.
