10 de julio de 2017, 00:22Ottawa, Jul 10 (Prensa Latina) The almost 200 forest fires in the Canadian province of British Columbia have damaged up to 12,000 hectares and caused the evacuation of about 7,000 people.

Horgan was to meet with evacuees in Kamloops and visit emergency operations centres that are dealing with what his team called the "worsening wildfire crisis".

The Southeast Fire Centre covers the area extending from the USA border in the south to Mica Dam in the north and from the Okanagan Highlands and Monashee Mountains in the west to the B.C. -Alberta border in the east.

The hardest-hit regions were the central and southern Interior.

Wildfires of Note: The BC Wildfire Service uses this page to provide basic information about the size, location and status of serious wildfires in the province.

Some 56 new wildfires were started across the province by mid-Saturday, raising the total number of active and risky wildfires to more than 240, local media reported. The government said it would allow it to more easily co-ordinate a response to the crisis.

"It's going to be pretty hectic out there, but I guess we'll be working long days and lugging a lot of hose around and doing whatever they need us to do", she said.

It's been estimated that more than 7,000 people have been evacuated from fire-stricken communities, many now in shelters, and an undetermined number of homes have been destroyed.

Evacuation orders and alerts were issued for more than 12 communities, many populated by Indigenous peoples.

The BC Wildfire Service is expecting hot and dry weather to worsen fire conditions in the coming days, as crews battle dozens of wildfires that are raging out of control across British Columbia. An additional 600 personnel were backing them up, plus another 200 contractors. "The next few houses were on fire", said Sutherland, who used to work on a forestry firefighting ground crew.

This includes at least five houses, 30 trailer park homes and two hangars at the regional airport. Registration ensures people are accounted for, can be contacted while away from home, and be reached with information and assistance.

Rob Schweizer, manager of the Kamloops Fire Centre, said it had been an unprecedented 24 hours.

About 300 firefighters and support staff from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and New Brunswick were expected to start arriving Monday to help relieve the pressure on roughly 1,000 B.C. firefighters battling the blazes.
