'We will make Charlie an American in bid to save his life'

Bobby Schindler joined Ian Payne in the studio before returning to Great Ormond Street Hospital to support Charlie Gard's parents

"There are now seven doctors supporting us from all over the world - from Italy, from America, from England as well - and they think that [experimental treatment] has a chance, you know, up to 10 percent chance of working for Charlie, and we feel that that's a chance worth taking", Yates said today, adding that they have been fighting for this opportunity since their son arrived at the hospital.

Chris Gard told reporters Sunday that the USA hospital where they want their son to be treated has doctors who specialize in Charlie's condition.

The couple lost a lengthy legal battle after judges ruled in favour of experts at the London hospital who said trial therapy in the United States would not improve the child's quality of life.

Ms Yates said her son was "not in pain or suffering" and she had been given hope by worldwide attempts to come to Charlie's aid, including from the Pope and President Trump.

It comes ahead of a fresh hearing of Charlie's case in the High Court on Monday.

It affects the cells responsible for energy production and respiration, leaving him unable to move or breathe without a ventilator.

Asked how Charlie's parents were feeling, the pro-life advocate said: "They are stressed as anyone would be in this situation, where their own parental rights are being stripped away by an institution that was hired to care for their son and instituted to care for the most vulnerable among us".

"Two global hospitals and their researchers have communicated to us as late as the last 24 hours that they have fresh evidence about their proposed experimental treatment", the hospital said in the statement.

The hospital has been backed by a series of court rulings, but the case is expected to be back in Britain's High Court on Monday.

She added: "There is nothing to lose, he deserves a chance".

The parents of terminally-ill infant Charlie Gard have vowed to keep fighting for him to receive treatment.

Charlie is bedridden, suffering from encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, a rare genetic condition considered to be terminal.

The hospital is now bound by court rulings barring it from sending Charlie anywhere for the experimental treatment, nucleoside therapy. "We believe it is right to seek the High Court's view in light of the claimed new evidence". Charlie will die from his illness, his doctors have said.

The hospital had said earlier that the treatment the baby's parents are seeking is unjustifiable and "would prolong Charlie's suffering". They have raised £1.3 million to pay for Charlie's treatment and transportation themselves through an online appeal.

"Our view has not changed", Great Ormond Street Hospital said Friday.

Justice Secretary David Lidington said the decision will be made by judges acting "independently and dispassionately" based on the facts of the case.

Meanwhile, U.S. Representatives Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) and Trent Franks (R-AZ) have offered legislation to grant citizenship to Charlie so he can come to the U.S. for experimental treatment.
