Saudi Arabia Confirms Qatar Boycott Policy

CS Iqbal Sees Qatar Resolution Long Time Coming

World Food Programme, UNICEF, World Health Organisation, UN refugee agency (UNHCR) and Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will be the main beneficiaries of the funds, according to the deals signed on Saturday in Qatar's capital Doha.

Last month, Doha's National Human Rights Committee said the sanctions had already violated the rights of almost 140 Qatari students studying in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

"A senior Foreign Ministry source described the statements' claims about the State of Qatar's interference in internal affairs of countries and financing terrorism as baseless allegations, noting that the State of Qatar's position on terrorism is consistent and known for its rejection and condemnation of all forms of terrorism whatever the causes and motives are", the statement added.

He pointed out that the inclusion of a number of journalists on the list indicated that the goal was to intimidate and to muzzle freedom of expression guaranteed by global accords.

Saudi Arabia along with United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Yemen and Egypt have isolated Qatar citing extremist links. They later issued a 10-day ultimatum to a 13-point list of demands.

On Friday, the anti-Qatar bloc accused Qatar of thwarting all efforts aimed at resolving the rift and said it intends to "continue its policy aimed at destabilizing security in the region".

There has been much speculation that Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain will seek to push Qatar out of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council either through suspension or expulsion. However, worldwide treaties prevent them from barring Qatari ships from using the canal as a passage. The canal is one of Egypt's top foreign currency earners and is seen as a symbol of it's the country's modernity.

In return, Saudi and its allies threatened further sanctions, while Qatar hit back, labelling the four Arab states "siege countries".

"The Qatari response lacks responsibility and objectivity and undermined Kuwaiti mediation efforts before they even took off".

The four Arab states have cut diplomatic and transport ties with Qatar, which they also accuse of allying with their regional arch-foe Iran.
