Donald Trump's son, son-in-law and campaign manager met a Russian lawyer with close ties to the Kremlin two weeks after Mr Trump secured the Republican nomination.
Representatives for Trump Jr. and Kushner reportedly confirmed the previously undisclosed meeting when confronted by the Times.
His lawyer, Jamie Gorelick, told The Times that he included this meeting on the form "out of an abundance of caution".
Then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort also attended, according to the statement from Donald Trump Jr.
Trump, a Republican who called it an "honor" to meet with the Russian president, drew swift criticism from Democrats at home, who accused him of dismissing U.S. intelligence and giving Putin's denial, reiterated on Friday, of Russian interference too much weight.
The New York Times said Ms Veselnitskaya was known for her attempts to undermine sanctions against Russian human rights abusers.
The meeting is thought to have been arranged by Mr Trump's son, Donald Jr.
Other memos in the uncorroborated dossier allege that the Trump campaign was coordinating with Russian operatives to meddle in the presidential election.
"I was asked to attend the meeting by an acquaintance, but was not told the name of the person I would be meeting with beforehand", he said in the statement to TheTimes.
"Russia suspended the adoptions as leverage to end United States human rights sanctions", he said. His statement did not mention his father's presidential campaign.
Moscow ended the scheme in response to American sanctions imposed following the 2009 death of a jailed lawyer who spoke about a corruption scandal.
