Donald Trump opens European trip with attack on United States news outlets

GETTYNazi-occupied Poland was home to death camps such as Auschwitz

"It's a threat and we will confront it very strongly", Trump said.

Trump praised Poland for meeting its North Atlantic Treaty Organisation commitments, and for its recent decision to purchase the USA -made Patriot missile defence system.

- President Trump is delivering a speech from Krasinski Square, the site of a monument commemorating the 1944 Warsaw Uprising against Nazi occupation.

At a joint news conference with his Polish counterpart, Andrzej Duda, Trump said that North Korean leaders were "behaving in a very, very risky matter and something will have to be done about it".

Trump will hold his first face-to-face meeting with Putin on Friday.

Trump returns to Europe after a shaky first trip to the continent in May and signs of unhappiness around the globe with the start of his presidency. Ahead of the G20 Summit on Thursday, when asked about the US intelligence community's assessment of the election interference, Trump said Russian Federation interfered, but "no one really knows".

The two leaders also face an array of contentious foreign policy issues, from Syria to Ukraine to North Korea.

"As you know now, they have some pretty serious problems", Trump said.

"To those who would criticize our tough stance, I would point out not merely with words but with its actions that we stand firmly behind Article 5, the mutual defense commitment", Trump said.

But I will say that CNN has really taken it too seriously and I think they've hurt themselves very badly, very, very badly, and what we want to see in the United States is honest, beautiful, free but honest press.

Trump had notably left out a mention of Article 5 during a speech in late May at NATO's new headquarters in Brussels.

Mr. Trump also decried "the steady creep of government bureaucracy that drains the vitality and wealth of the people", citing the value of individual freedom and sovereignty, in front of an audience that was composed in part of loyalists bused in for the occasion.

Warsaw hopes that Trump's visit will pave the way for more gas supplies from the United States. "Bad thing. Very bad for our country".

Mr. Trump then sought to stress that, "when President Obama found out about this (Russian hacking) in August, and the election was in November, that's a long time, and he did nothing about it". On Thursday afternoon, the USA president will leave for Germany.
