Golden State Warriors May Lose Andre Iguodala

Why David West Returning Means So Much for Warriors

Golden State will certainly sign Durant and Curry, and Iguodala could be the odd man out.

Iguodala's decision doesn't rule out the small forward returning to the Warriors, but it will give other teams the opportunity to swoop in and take away one component of Golden State's title-winning core. The 33-year-old just completed his fourth season with the Warriors and averaged 7.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 76 games.

This is why it's so important for the Warriors to draft well, even if they're only picking in the second round, because depth might be hard to build as veteran bench players like Iguodala consider major raises.

Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors are also facing the possibility that Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant could sign off the team, but reports indicate that this is unlikely.

According to ESPN's Chris Haynes, the Minnesota Timberwolves, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, Brooklyn Nets and Utah Jazz are among the teams interested in Iguodala's services.

Iguodala has spent the past four seasons with the Warriors, winning two National Basketball Association titles in that time. If Golden State can manage to talk Iguodala to taking a discount - not a big one - there is a big chance that he could stay.

ESPN has confirmed a report by The Vertical that Iguodala plans to meet with other teams.

Drew Shiller is the co-host of Warriors Outsiders and a Web Producer at NBC Sports Bay Area. His leadership qualities, defensive prowess and timely shot-making has helped Golden State to two championships and three Finals appearances in the last three seasons. The only good news for the Warriors is they have Iguodala's Bird Rights. The team is reportedly prepared to ink a deal with Iguodala when he becomes a free agent starting on July 1 but the most that the player can get is $12 million per season.
