Growing frenzy outside court as Cosby deliberations wear on

Jury in Bill Cosby trial begins second day of deliberations, submits another question to judge

A Pennsylvania jury was deliberating a third day Wednesday whether to convict disgraced comedy legend Bill Cosby of sexual assault in one of America's biggest celebrity trials in years.

Cosby is charged with drugging and molesting Constand, 44.

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done.

While Cosby did not testify at his trial, a decade-old deposition testimony he gave during Constand's civil suit against him armed prosecutors with evidence. They were brought in from Allegheny County (near Pittsburgh) and were sequestered in a hotel.

Ms Constand, an athletic, 6ft college basketball staffer, said they made her dazed and groggy, and unable to say no or fight back when Cosby molested her.

Cosby's lawyer noted to the jury instances where Andrea's statements were inconsistent, stating that, in one interview, she told the police that the assault took place in March 2004 and, in other interviews, January 2004.

Pulliam explained that she will accept the verdict that the jury decides on but has not said whether or not she believes he is guilty or innocent.

A judge blocked Jackson from testifying at the trial, ruling it would be hearsay.

Ms Constand's lawyer, Dolores Troiani, told reporters that Ms Jackson was "not telling the truth" and faulted Mr Wyatt for circulating Ms Jackson's statement while jurors were deliberating.

"You do not try your case on the courthouse steps", Troiani said. "The (witness) statement was not accurate". His testimony described the night she said Cosby gave her three pills and touched her genitals.

For the second time in their deliberations, the jurors asked to revisit a portion of the deposition in which the comedian talked about giving Constand "three friends".

He said he was content with the "petting" and touching the two had taken part in; on one occasion, when he was kissing her breasts, she said stop and he immediately complied. I pray for her. "Simply, you're exhausted, and I respect that", O'Neill said. He'd projected the entire quote onto a large screen: "Your friends, I have three friends for you to make you relax", it read.

Constand, under the influence of the drugs and who briefly lost consciousness, could not and did not give consent, he said.

As a defense lawyer, Winters said he could go back to his office and work as he waited for a verdict. "They are competing for accuracy", MacGregor said, adding that the longer the deliberations, the more likely Cosby walks.

McMonagle did not deny that Cosby slept with Constand but argued that the relationship was consensual.

The comedian also faces a defamation lawsuit by model Janice Dickinson, who claims Cosby drugged and raped her in Lake Tahoe, California, in 1982.

Jurors were stone-faced but after hours of apparently grueling deliberations, they told O'Neill they needed rest. He further said that, in her first interview, she claimed to have never been alone with his client before the alleged attack, but later contradicted that statement saying that she spent time alone at his home before the alleged assault at a CT casino resort.

The defense had tried repeatedly since Cosby's December 30, 2015, arrest to have the case shut down, saying the charges were filed too late and the accusers were after money. They complained that prosecutors were improperly striking blacks from the jury chosen in Allegheny County because of reported excessive pretrial publicity in the Philadelphia region.
