Ronaldo summoned to answer judge's questions on tax fraud

Jose Mourinho during his spell as Real Madrid manager

The total quantity is a sum of 3.304.670 euros relating to 1.611.537 euros for the fiscal year of 2011 and 1.693.133 euro for 2012. To this date, neither the Spanish tax authorities, nor the public prosecutor have contacted Jose Mourinho or his advisers who were hired for the inspection process.

It comes a week after Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo was accused of evading €14.7m (£12.9m) in tax through offshore companies between 2011 and 2014.

The Portugal worldwide will have to appear in the Pozuelo de Alarcon court No. 1 on July 31.

Spain s Budget Minister Cristobal Montoro urged media to respect the presumption of innocence regarding the four-time world player of the year.

Cristiano Ronaldo regards Manchester United as a better run club than Real Madrid. "All we know is that he's unhappy with the treatment he has had from the press, who have claimed that he is a tax cheat".

The Sun also reports that United are anxious he is just using them to get Madrid to give him a new and improved contract.

Coentrao is suspected of failing to correctly declare 1.3 million euros of income.

In the season just ended, he won three trophies in his debut campaign at Manchester United, although he drew criticism after a poor league performance.

Spanish prosecutors have also indicted football player Predrag Mijatovic for tax fraud while allegedly working as an unlicensed football agent. The prison term will be suspended as is common in Spain for first offences for non-violent crimes carrying a sentence of less than two years.

The prosecutor said last Tuesday that there was evidence that Ronaldo used a shell company in the Virgin Islands to hide the money he had made from image rights.

He is the latest high-profile figure from football to be subjected to an investigation by the Spanish tax office, following the likes of Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar, Radamel Falcao, Javier Mascherano and Angel di Maria.

"I don't have any solution, but Cristiano, like everyone else, has a contract and is a Real Madrid player", Perez told radio station Onda Cero after earning a third consecutive mandate at Real.
