Warriors' Game 5 win wraps up highly-watched NBA Finals

Warriors beat Cavs 129-120 to win 2017NBA Finals 4-1

As the Golden State Warriors wrested the National Basketball Association championship from LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, it was hard to miss the irony - James losing to the monster he helped create.

There will be one question inevitably asked this offseason by most of the 29 other teams in the National Basketball Association whose fingers didn't get to smudge the golden surface of the Larry O'Brien Trophy this year.

The move was criticized heavily at the time because Durant was seen as jumping ship to a stronger team he felt he couldn't beat rather than sticking around and trying to fight. "It's kind of insane to think about the conversations we had this summer and going into the year about how we can both mesh and do what we do and be the players that we are and (to) see it come to life in this series, it was unbelievable".

However, Game four would be the only time The Golden State Warriors would be defeated as they clinched the 2017 NBA Finals Championship versus The Cleveland Cavaliers during Game five.

It was an unprecedented third consecutive meeting between the clubs in the finals and both appear ready to continue their domination of conference rivals on the way to an annual showdown for the crown.

"I hear all the narratives throughout the season that I was joining, I was hopping on the bandwagon, I was letting everybody else do the work", Durant said. Pretty much all their big-name guys are in their 20s, and they don't show any signs of slowing down. He came close. But the Warriors are one of the great teams of all time, and when they needed a basket, they got it.

"I was expecting more", coach Steve Kerr told KTVU-TV, joking about the size of the crowd. It has been great three-year run, but we feel like we can carry this forward. We'll see what happens.

The Cavaliers exceeded the luxury tax a year ago by $54 million trying to make James happy, and they lost $40 million for the season.

Does Cavaliers general manager David Griffin look to star free agents or trade deals? The Finals MVP delivered the goods in a big way.

James, who in 2012 with Miami beat the Thunder in Durant's only other Finals, wound up with 41 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists. "So we will see, but I will get away from the game a little bit".

Check out the reactions on Twitter to the Golden State Warriors win below and on the following pages. I need to sit down and figure this thing out. It's such unselfish nature that has helped the Warriors flourish.

"We've overcome a lot of doubts", said Tulio Zelada, 28, a San Francisco resident who attended the parade. "That's the culture that we built and it's an wonderful thing to see".

Now, Smith used the ESPN platform to revisit those comments thanks to Durant's mother, Wanda.

Before the Warriors added Kevin Durant, a former regular-season MVP, to the roster, the Warriors set a record for effective field goal percentage (56.3 percent). "I've got nothing but love and respect for him and I can't wait to compete against him again next season".
