Iran launches missile strike into Syria for Tehran attacks

A Look at Iranian Newspaper Front Pages on June 18- 19dey

The Guard's website, as well as semi-official news agencies, reported the strikes Sunday on Deir el-Zour, Syria.

Iran is allied with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the ongoing Syrian civil war. Iran's Revolutionary Guard, a hard-line paramilitary force, has seen advisers and fighters killed in the conflict.

Activists in Syria said they had no immediate information on damage or casualties from the strikes, launched from Iran's Kurdistan and Kermanshah provinces. The Guard's website said it launched surface-to-surface medium-range missiles targeting the area.

"The spilling of any pure blood will not go unanswered", the Revolutionary Guards said in the statement quoted by Tasnim.

On June 7, gunmen and suicide bombers attacked the parliament complex and the shrine of revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in Tehran, killing 17 people.

The Daesh Takfiri terrorist group claimed responsibility for the assaults.

The Guard warned Islamic State militants and their "regional and global supporters" that similar retaliatory attacks would target them as well if another assault in Iran occurs.

Shiite-majority Iran and Sunni-majority Saudi Arabia have long had a sectarian feud. According to Iran, the militant groups were responsible for the twin terror attacks in Tehran about two weeks ago.
