Busy Aisha Tyler says goodbye to 'The Talk' after 6 years

Sgt. Ryan Russell was killed when he was struck by a snowplow driven by Richard Kachkar

The Talk may now wait until the fall season to announce formally a new co-host; this is what many other daytime shows tend to do, and use fill-in hosts as a means to both test out potential hosting combinations and also add a little bit of new energy to the proceedings.

Tyler was visibly emotional while explaining her decision to leave the Emmy winning CBS talk show.

'At the end of this season I'm going to be leaving the show, ' she said. She promised the audience that she'll be back-whether as a guest host or as a guest.

Tyler also directed her first feature film, "Axis", which has played at a number of festivals, and which she said was "something I've always dreamed of doing".

"I loved directing. and I knew, I think, that that was what I wanted to do with the rest of my life", she continued.

Aisha struggled to contain her emotions as she broke the news and cried.

Will you guys miss Tyler?

CBS didn't immediately announce who might replace Tyler on the show that includes co-hosts Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood.

The co-host and actress, who's been part of The Talk since season two, explained that she'd simply become too busy, with three other TV shows and launching another career as a director, which she'd realized she wanted to devote more attention to.

Ahead of her announcement on the show, she wrote about change on Twitter, possibly hinting about her exit. It was already hectic, but now that she has an opportunity to direct her first feature film, she had to make the hard decision to let something go.

"Saying goodbye to Aisha is a bittersweet moment for all of us at CBS Daytime and THE TALK", said Angelica McDaniel, Executive Vice President, Daytime Programs and Syndicated Program Development, CBS Entertainment and CBS Television Distribution.
