Apple allows in-app tipping for content creators

In its App Store Review Guidelines, Apple said: "Apps may use in-app purchase currencies to enable customers to "tip" digital content providers in the app. Apps may not include buttons, external links, or other calls to action that direct customers to purchasing mechanisms other than in-app purchase". Now, developers will have to use the API for their app review protocols no matter what, instead of being able to set up their own custom systems. And, it will be possible to disable these review prompts entirely starting in iOS 11. The new tool was part of an overhaul of the review policy, which also gave developers the ability to respond to user comments directly - but it wasn't mandatory.

This scenario is only one of the ways crafty developers and scammers syphoned money from the users and Apple. So where developers would need users to constantly re-rate apps over time, now they don't have to because one rating can stick for a long time. The app is allowed to display the message again, up to a limit of three times per year. One anti-virus app told him its cost US$99.99 for a seven-day subscription. People have been annoyed by app review prompts for years, and this update seems to remedy the problem. While, Apple does provide an RSS feed for this feature, it will be interesting to see if they continue offering this feed after the iOS 11 launch.

Coombs goes on to say that users will always be given the choice between "Never, When in Use and Always" when the app is first used, so you can have your Uber and uh, eat it too.

With new fields like Subtitle of App, ability to add more videos per app, product pages and more, developers now have their work cut out to experiment and get the best results to drive growth via search.
