Two Kerr County toddlers die after being left in car

The children's mother, Amanda Hawkins, 19, has been charged with two counts of Abandoning or Endangering a Child and is now in custody in the Bexar County Jail, awaiting transfer to Kerr County, Hierholzer said.

Amanda Hawkins, 19, left her two little daughters in her vehicle on one of the hottest days of the year because she wanted to have fun with friends.

Brynn Hawkins, 1, and Addyson Overgard-Eddy, 2, passed away in the hospital around 5 p.m. Thursday.

The young mother brought both of her daughters to Peterson Regional Medical Center in "grave condition" Wednesday, telling doctors they collapsed after smelling flowers during an outing at Flat Rock Park.

Hawkins, who is being held in Bexar County on $70,000 bail on two charges of abandoning or endangering a child, is awaiting transfer to Kerr County, the release said.

Kerr County Sheriff Rusty Hierholzer said Hawkins and a 16-year-old male friend went to another friend's house on Tuesday night.

He added in the statement a male friend of Hawkins had slept in the vehicle outside a residence in Riverside Drive but did nothing to help the children.

Looking on her Facebook page, Hawkins in recent months frequently posted about her kids and said how lucky she felt having them.

Her daughters cried during the night but she ignored them, a sheriff said, and returned only at noon the next day. She allegedly told authorities that she didn't want to take them to the hospital "because she didn't want to get into trouble". The sheriff stated after returning to the auto and finding the children in trouble, Hawkins did not immediately take the children to a hospital.

People inside the house reported hearing the children crying but nobody went to check, he said to KABB.

Ms Hawkins has been charged with two counts of child endangerment.

The girls were quickly taken to the University Hospital in San Antonio but died at about 17:00 on Thursday.

A friend of Hawkins, Miriam Davis, who has known her since middle school, told KSAT 12 that she noticed Hawkins treating her children badly and regrets not calling Child Protection Services.

Hawkins has been arrested in San Antonio, and is now in the Bexar County Jail before being transferred to the Kerr County Jail.

Charges against Texas mother may be upgraded.
