Haley says Trump believes climate is changing

Michael Bloomberg: I'll make sure UN gets $15 million it needs for Paris agreement

Iran on Sunday joined the worldwide chorus of criticism against US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement, saying it would further isolate the United States.

President Donald Trump does believe the world's climate is changing and humans bear some responsibility, United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said in an interview. When pressed about Trump's beliefs, advisors Gary Cohn and Kellyanne Conway told journalists to "ask him".

It also said "in the absence of leadership from Washington, states, cities, colleges and universities and businesses representing a sizeable percentage of the U.S. economy will pursue ambitious climate goals".

Haley's comments are the closest acknowledgement by an administration official since Trump took office that the President - who has called climate change a "hoax" on multiple occasions - believes global warming is occurring and humanity has a role in it. "He knows that the USA has to be responsible with it, and that's what we're going to do".

As well as a world outcry, Trump's decision prompted a domestic backlash, with state governors, city mayors and powerful companies already drawing up plans to meet the Paris pact's greenhouse gas emission targets.

India Monday firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's allegation that it signed the Paris climate accord for financial gain.

Haley claimed that Trump was aware of climate change.

The announcement drew sharp reactions from world leaders who criticized President Trump, while they affirmed their commitment to protecting the planet.

Among other things, the French video says that the $3bn (£2.3bn) that former US Presdent Barack Obama pledged to the Green Climate Fund is "less per capita than many other countries including Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Sweden". The White House has stressed that quitting the Paris accord was about getting out of a bad deal that penalized the US but excused other countries that are big polluters.

As RollCall later pointed out, the President never used the term "climate change" itself in the speech. Numerous companies and politicians who signed up have been advocating for months for the U.S.to uphold its climate change commitments. We are going to continue to be a leader in the environment. There has been widespread protests in United States against President's Trump decision.
