Spicer won't say whether Trump has confidence in Sessions

Pressed repeatedly on the topic, Spicer said he simply had not talked to Trump about the matter and added: "If I have not had a discussion with him about a subject I tend not to speak about it".

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on Tuesday declined to say whether Donald Trump has confidence in Jeff Sessions, amid reports that the president is still reeling over his attorney general's recusal from the Russian Federation investigation. "I have not had a discussion with him (Trump) about that", Spicer said. Sessions-a longstanding Trump ally who was the first GOP senator to support his candidacy-made the offer in recent weeks after Trump was infuriated by his decision to recuse himself from the investigation of alleged Russian election meddling, sources tell ABC and the Wall Street Journal.

But sources say the frustration runs both ways, prompting the resignation offer Sessions.

Trump has often expressed anger over the decision of Sessions to step back from the investigation, as this led to former FBI Director Robert Mueller taking over its proceedings, as well as giving the case increased publicity, according to the publication.

That was just one Tweet in a series where Trump shared what the Justice Department "should" do, which is apparently something he didn't bother to pass along to Jefferson Sessions via a route other than a giant public rebuke.

But the cozy, warm relationship between Trump and Sessions has appeared to turn ice cold, at least for the president, the New York Times reports. That was after he failed to disclose a conversation with Russia's ambassador to the United States during his confirmation hearing. Trump seemed to blame the DOJ for the "politically correct" revised version of the order, which Trump himself signed, posting that the Justice Department "should have stayed with the original Travel Ban, not the watered down, politically correct version they submitted" to the Supreme Court.
