Former Penn State administrators sentenced in connection with Sandusky abuse

Sandusky is serving a 30- to 60-year sentence for abusing 10 boys but is appealing.

All three men were fined as well.

At least two months have to be served in jail.

"The child who was assaulted in the February 2001 shower incident and all of Sandusky's victims that followed were particularly harmed as timely, appropriate action against Sandusky could have prevented their victimization", prosecutors wrote in the 14-page sentencing memorandum. Some reports alleged rape, some alleged nothing more than unusual behavior.

The 63-year-old Curley and 67-year-old Schultz told the judge Friday they were sorry they didn't do more.

The initial conspiracy and endangerment case against Spanier and the two other administrators had languished for years, managed through multiple Pennsylvania attorneys general and dissected and reshaped by appellate court decisions.

Each man was sentenced Friday in Dauphin County Court by specially presiding Judge John Boccabella.

Spanier's lawyers had argued that he should not get jail time, in part because of health problems.

Prosecutor Laura Ditka called him a "failure as a leader", saying he chose to protect his reputation over the well-being of innocent children. "I was unimpressed by your testimony during the trial", the judge said. "Why no one made a phone call to police ... is beyond me", he said.

He was one of the nation's highest-paid university presidents. He played the washboard at a local bar in town, and spent a night each semester sleeping in freshman dorms.

The case also badly damaged the reputation of Joe Paterno, the revered head football coach, who was accused of knowing about allegations against Sandusky. He didn't appear to understand that the world was watching, telling people the news vans would eventually leave campus and life would return to normal.

In a particularly combative turn at the stand for a prosecution witness, Curley testified that he didn't remember numerous pivotal conversations that led up to the 2001 decision, including his conversations with Paterno. He died in 2012.
