Special Envoy Lee meets with China's Xi Jinping

South Korean special envoy Lee Hae-chan, left, passes on a hand-written letter from South Korean President Moon Jae-in to Chinese President Xi Jinping during a meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Friday, May 19, 2017.

Xi also expressed China's willingness to properly deal with disputes and preserve the hard-won results that the two countries achieved in the past, as he began discussions with Lee Hae Chan, a former prime minister.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un hailed the launch on Sunday as a test of the "perfect weapon system" and capable of carrying "a large-size heavy nuclear warhead". Also confirmed was cooperation to counter North Korea's nuclear arms and missile threats.

"The urgent issue to be settled on the Korean Peninsula is to put a definite end to the USA hostile policy toward DPRK, the root cause of all problems", the North's deputy permanent representative to the UN Kim In Ryong told reporters at UN headquarters. Beijing has suggested calling on North Korea to stop missile and nuclear tests in exchange for the US and South Korea suspending military exercises in the region.

" ... The most flawless weapon systems in the world will never become the eternal exclusive property of the United States of America ... the U.S. should not ... disregard or misjudge the reality that its mainland and Pacific operation region are in (North Korea's) sighting range for strike".

There is another danger present with regards to the new administration - namely the United States and China.

The golf course, which the Lotte Group, the country's fifth-biggest conglomerate, had owned, was designated as a site for THAAD that Seoul and Washington agreed in July previous year to deploy in South Korea.

Lee, a newly appointed special envoy for South Korean President Moon Jae-in, met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday, and urged Seoul to eliminate any obstacles affecting bilateral ties, particularly the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (Thaad) anti-missile system.

He also said he hopes to address these issues together with the new South Korean government.

Kim said the North would not abide by United Nations resolutions, which "lost their legitimacy, legality and impartiality", until the global community recognizes its right to "self-defensive measures" and the US ends its "provocative maneuvers".

The secret transportation caused a strong backlash from residents and peace activists who had stood guard beside the entrance road to the golf course to block any further deployment of other THAAD elements.

Tension has remained high on the Korean Peninsula over the past months between the United States and North Korea over the US threat to stage military attacks against Pyongyang in response to its nuclear and missile programs.
