Surprise! Five Guys Is Now America's Favorite Burger Chain

By chief_huddleston on Flickr

The burger chain took home the top spot on the 2017 Harris Poll EquiTrend category for burger chains.

This was the first year that Five Guys has achieved the number one spot in the poll.

At In-N-Out, you can order burgers, shakes, fries and grilled cheeses, with Five Guys also adding hot dogs and BLTs to their menu.

And in the same survey from 2013, Five Guys jumped from 48% familiarity to 68% today. The poll ranked brands based on familiarity, quality, and purchase consideration. After Five Guys, the Top 10 burger brands were In-N-Out, Shake Shack, Wendy's, Culver's, Whataburger, McDonald's, SONIC America's Drive-In, Smashburger and Steak 'n Shake.

The success of Five Guys in the survey has partly been put down to its rapid growth over the last few years, to the point that there are now well over 1000 branches in the USA and many more overseas. The chain is popular for its simple and tasty burgers available with a slew of toppings to suit every taste and preference.

'This is certainly the case with Five Guys, who has shed its "small regional player" designation as it expands its footprint and marketing budget along with its fandom, which is a tremendous contributor to brand equity'.

Five Guys began expanding beyond the Washington D.C. area in 2003 and came to Fresno's River Park in 2010.

As the chain grows, Americans' appreciation for Five Guys has increased. In the poll, the chain got an 81 percent familiarity rating among generation Z and millennials.
