CNN Goes After Sheriff David Clarke By Playing His Greatest Hits

Clark has been sheriff of Milwaukee County since 2002 and spent more than two decades before that with city's police department.

She described Clarke as someone who is "known to be an enemy of the black lives matter movement" before complaining that he has "ignited controversy after controversy with comments like these".

Following Clarke's announcement on Wednesday, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele issued a statement reading, "I've said repeatedly that Milwaukee deserves better than Sheriff Clarke".

Clarke was a high-profile surrogate for Donald Trump during the campaign, earning him a prime time speaking role at the Republican National Convention.

A spokesman for Clarke confirmed to The Post that the sheriff will step down to be appointed to the position, which he expects to begin sometime in June.

Clarke would also be leaving office with several pending lawsuits against him, including one filed by Thomas' relatives.

Clarke, Jr announced during an interview with 1130 WISN Radio on Thursday, that he will be resigning to take on a position with the Trump administration.

David Clarke, the controversial sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wi., says he has accepted a position at the Department of Homeland Security, Politico reports.

Critics have faulted Clarke for his management of a Milwaukee County jail where a mentally ill man died in 2016 of dehydration.

It's not clear if Clarke had endorsed the language, which Baldwin called "stomach-churning name-calling", or if he was even interested in running for Senate. Many of our neighbors oppose the program as it allows law enforcement to stop and question people based on just their appearance. Sheriff David Clarke has also received stark criticism for several controversies surrounding the Milwaukee County House of Correction.

Clarke wasn't among the seven staffers on the jury's list because prosecutors say he wasn't directly involved in the events leading up Thomas' death.

When a Wisconsin sheriff leaves office midway through his or her term, the governor typically appoints a successor who would fill out the rest of the term and potentially run for election at the end of it, he said.

Last year, the frequent Fox News guest earned more than $105,000 in speaking fees - nearly as much as his sheriff's salary - at more than three dozen events across the country.

When a sniper killed five police officers in Dallas in July 2016 after Delrawn Small, Alton Sterling, and Philando Castile were killed by police officers in the same week, Clarke claimed that Obama was to blame for the racial tension and said, "President Obama uses his words irresponsibly and it fuels anger towards police in this country".
