Manchester United's 'crazy' schedule taking its toll on Jose Mourinho's players

The Portuguese boss looks set to miss out on a Champions League spot based on their position in the table, but can still qualify for Europe's premier club competition next season if they win the Europa League this month.

The Red Devils will face Ajax in that competition's final in Stockholm on 25 May, with the victor admitted into the Champions League.

"We're approaching the end of a compelling season - our first with Jose Mourinho as manager and one which I believe we've made tremendous progress, both on and off the pitch", he said. Until we could, until the injuries arrived, we fought for the Premier League top four.

United will receive 6.5 million euros in prize money if they win the Europa League and 3.5 million euros if they lose the final. I don't know when we would be playing that game [what would have been a postponed league victory against Burnley].

"I tell them we really need them to create a good atmosphere, a hard atmosphere for the opponents, who can push us to be in the final". "At the moment, the Premier League matches are the ones we don't want to play".

That means that - barring injury - De Gea will not feature for United again this season. It's not possible to do it every three days with Europa League that is the competition with two more matches, with two matches in hand that we had to play later, it's impossible.

"When we can make seven changes with the team, this has allowed different players to recover, and this will allow us to finish strong this week".

"We lost against Arsenal 2-0, we fought for the result, we lost 2-1 [against Tottenham] and fought for the result". Harry Kane doubled that on 48 minutes, before Wayne Rooney scored a consolation goal for United.

"We need three good goalkeepers and we have them, but only two are experienced", the Manchester United manager said. Because only that can help you win the Europa League!

"I analyse the individual performances of the players, try to understand who can give me a little bit more for the final".

Derek McInnes' side won't enter Europa League qualification until the second round rather than the first round as was expected, providing the Dons don't give up six points and 20 goals in the remaining two games of the season.
