Sega Plans to Revive Major IPs and Obtain New Ones

Sega Could Be Planning To Resurrect Huge IPs

The plan was laid out in a presentation called "The Road to 2020", which laid out business strategies and policies that they plan to implement within the next three years. It appears alongside all the standard things that SEGA is planning to revive old, great IPs.

Are there any IPs in particular you'd like to see Sega breathe new life into?

In this fiscal year 2017-2018, Sega aims to achieve the sales goal of 11.6 million units with current and upcoming titles, like Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III, Total War: Warhammer II and Sonic Forces. Sadly though, many of these IPs have been on the backburner.

Few other details are given in the document, such as particulars on which "past" and "major" IPs Sega has in mind for revival.

Thus, words like "global hits" and "be a game changer" are sprinkled in among vague plans like building revenue via third party development (which could tie in with obtaining new IPs) and maintaining profits "through long-term operation of existing titles".

Sega has not done much with a lot of franchises. Recently though the company has started to port over games like Bayonetta and Vanquish to PC, but it isn't going to stop there.

Sega explains that it doesn't want to work backward from the platforms it's working on.

Finally, Sega explicitly detailed the biggest bullet points for finding success with digital distribution and packaged retail games.

These include "revival of past IPs and active utilization of external IPs", and expanding development channels to encompass mobile, PC, and consoles.
