Nissan's plant in Sunderland, as well as French auto maker Renault, are among the latest businesses that have been hit by the global ransomware attack, which also impacted the NHS yesterday.

"Nearly all plants should be able to resume their activity tomorrow", a Renault spokesman told Automotive News on Sunday.

Reports say production had been halted at Renault's Sandouville plant in northern France and its Novo Mesto facility in Slovenia.

Carmakers have not been spared, and those affected include alliance partners Renault and Nissan, which had to halt production at factories. Lost production will be made up, but the initial financial impact has not been revealed, per the spokesman. We are awaiting official statements from Nissan and Renault regarding the same.

Romania's intelligence service SRI officially confirmed the attack on Saturday and said that various institutions and companies in Romania were affected.

They declined to comment on their cybersecurity policies.

Nissan UK's unit in Sunderland was hit by the attack, spokeswoman Lucy Banwell said.

Renault didn't pay a ransom, the spokesman said.

In the United Kingdom, the ransomware made headlines on Friday when it disrupted Britain's National Health Service.

France's ANSSI digital security agency said that for the moment, it knew of no other French victims of the attack.

"Measures are being put in place to stop the spread of the virus; it's the first step", the spokeswoman said, adding that "We're seeking to have a global vision to see which sites have been affected".
