Trump threatens to cancel briefings for 'sake of accuracy'

Conway told CNN's Anderson Cooper that the Russian Federation investigation had nothing to do with Comey's firing, pushing the administration's line that Trump lost confidence in Comey over his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state.

Sanders said Thursday that Trump would "love nothing more for this investigation to continue to its completion".

Some in the media are calling President Donald Trump's threat to cancel White House press briefings unprecedented, but it's not.

President Donald Trump's communications strategy requires the White House to delegitimize all sources of information that provide unfavorable facts about the administration.

The White House also changed its narrative about whether the president had made a decision to fire Comey based on the recommendations by Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

"After watching Director Comey's testimony last Wednesday [at Capitol Hill], the President was strongly inclined to remove him".

Meanwhile, this wasn't the only time McCabe rebuked the official line out of the White House.

Whether or not Huckabee Sanders heard from enough people to make this anecdote meaningful (putting aside the fact that the public is supposed to take her word for it that a representative sample of Federal Bureau of Investigation employees got in touch with her and actually said what she claims) completely misses the point.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer spoke to reporters Friday during the White House daily press briefing.

"Today we will no doubt hear calls for a new investigation which could only serve to impede the current work being done", McConnell told the chamber.

The White House has struggled to present a unified narrative about Trump's firing of Comey on Tuesday, which created a storm of speculation over the timing of the dismissal amid the FBI's probe into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

On Wednesday, during a briefing for which she once again received relatively high marks from observers, Sanders was asked if the president had made a decision to fire Comey before he receiving a recommendation from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that she do so.

Trump says in an interview with NBC News that he had planned to fire Comey all along, regardless of the recommendations of top Justice Department officials.

Huckabee Sanders said Comey chose to throw a "stick of dynamite" at the Department of Justice when he circumvented the chain of command in his press conference previous year regarding the investigation in Hillary Clinton's private server. "The president, over the last several months, lost confidence in Director Comey".
