Man Utd guarantee: Arsenal and Tottenham can expect this from Mourinho - Carragher

Manchester United's Jose Mourinho gestures on the touchline during the Premier League match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says he inherited a good group of players from predecessor Louis van Gaal, but that they lacked the happiness and belief that they have since discovered.

The battle between the Manchester sides this year has been intriguing on a number of levels, not least due to the presence of Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola in the dugouts, but the rewards were supposed to be grander than a top-four finish.

The draw at City, in which Fellaini was red-carded for headbutting Sergio Aguero, left United a point below their local rivals, who occupy the fourth and final Champions League qualifying spot.

Mourinho took the United job and said he would never use Rooney in midfield - "with me he will never be a No6, not even a No8"- but he may have to reverse that policy. The fact we are still fighting for important things is a good motivation for people to make an extra effort.

"Next July 9, when we meet again for next season, it's a stronger group", he added.

"The players at this stage of the season are fit enough, they don't need to be doing much training", said the United legend.

Central defenders Phil Jones and Chris Smalling remain out injured for the Swansea game, with Marcos Rojo having suffered a season-ending knee ligament injury.

But the Ivorian believes the two Manchester Clubs will emerge in better shape next season, with plenty of transfer activity expected at the Etihad and Old Trafford over the summer. So it's an unfair fight, but we are going for it.

"I think City will finish top four". Now we just have to focus on the next game.

Both City and United still have a game in hand over Klopp's side, however, and respective wins for the Manchester duo could see the Reds in fifth by the time they travel to Vicarage Road. I have to speak with them and see how they are and how they feel.

Clement hopes that midfielder Jack Cork (ankle) and defender Martin Olsson (hamstring) recover from their respective injury problems in time for Sunday's match.

Sunday's clash with relegation-threatened Swansea will be United's ninth game in April and they have been handed a midday kick-off despite a draining Manchester derby finishing close to 10pm on Thursday night. "We have the talent but it's not easy". "We didn't tell Morgan "we want to sell you", Morgan asked and said "please sell me, I want to go and play every game".
