Republicans pushes health bill, may face fallout

U.S. President Donald Trump turns to House Speaker Paul Ryan as he gathers with Congressional Republicans in the Rose Garden of the White House after the House of Representatives approved the American Healthcare Act to repeal major parts of Ob

With Thursday's 217-213 vote, Republicans obtained just enough support to push the legislation through the House, sending it to the Senate for consideration.

Insurers have generally considered conditions treated within three months of the start of coverage to be pre-existing, health care industry consultant Robert Laszewski said. No more. It should now come to be known by other names: the house of selfishness, the house of suffering, the house of the wealthy, the house of expediency, the house of untreated illness. See why it's the Anti-Health-Care Bill?

After the House vote Thursday, Paul said he opposed the House bill because it guarantees "the fundamental promise of Obamacare kept".

The bill would leave 500,000 more Garden State residents without health insurance than under current law, and New Jersey no longer would get extra federal funding for expanding Medicaid.

"I've already made clear that I don't support the House Bill as now constructed because I continue to have concerns that this Bill does not do enough to protect Ohio's Medicaid expansion population", said Republican Senator Rob Portman.

US President Donald Trump says the new healthcare bill has brought his party together, but Democrats think it could bring them down. The Affordable Care Act, which remains in place, does not permit this.

House Republicans are claiming a triumph by finally approving their centerpiece bill scuttling much of President Barack Obama's health care law.

Following the vote, the House Democratic campaign arm announced that it would immediately begin launching ads in 30 Republican-held districts, regardless of whether the politicians holding them had voted for the bill.

Rep. Steve Stivers, R-Upper Arlington, represents Athens County as part of the 15th district.

The bill now goes to the Senate where it is expected to be rewritten.

"We're going to unshackle, build an economy, let people have greater choice in their health care and protect pre-existing conditions". On the other hand, Freedom Caucus members including Joe Walsh and Mo Brooks, Republican of Alabama, loudly asserted that the rich should not have to pay for heath-care coverage for poor people, and those "who live good lives" and are healthy should not have to contribute to insurance that covers people with expensive medical conditions. Democrats are united in opposition to the House bill. She said there is not a timetable, but that it is a priority for the administration, so the hope is that "the Senate will take action quickly".

A recent Ohio State University study found that nearly everyone covered through Ohio's Medicaid expansion would have no other viable insurance option if the Affordable Care Act is repealed. "They are going to work through it. Medicaid reimbursement is a huge, huge issue".

Republicans insist the American Health Care Act will be an improvement over Obamacare. "The bill passed by the House today doesn't do that". In deciding to vote yes, Miami Rep. Carlos Curbelo - considered the most endangered Republican in Congress because of his moderate district - took a risky gamble that appears based on politics, not people.

Even though the Senate still has to act, Republicans now largely own a measure that would curtail, and in some cases take away completely, benefits Americans have embraced after seven years. "States have all kinds of different policies and there are disparities among states for many things: driving restrictions, alcohol, whatever".

Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner of IL, a state that expanded coverage under Obama's law, said he will push senators to change the legislation so the impacts are not as dire for the state.
