Trump warns North Korea's missiles will get better

S. Korea media warn of Trump risk to alliance

In an interview with CBS News's John Dickerson that aired Sunday on "Face the Nation", Trump said he would not be pleased if North Korea takes that step. A lot of people, I'm sure, tried to take that power away, whether it was his uncle or anybody else.

Trump said North Korea had "disrespected" China by attempting to launch another ballistic missile as the President counts on his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to encourage Pyongyang to give up its pursuit of missile and nuclear weapons programmes.

Meanwhile, as the strike group headed by the United States aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson arrived in the region, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un fired what South Korea now believes could be a new type of missile.

The Carl Vinson arrived in the Sea of Japan and kicked off a joint drill with the South Korean navy on Saturday, hours after North Korea launched a ballistic missile in apparent defiance of the US.

The US President said despite North Korea's latest failed rocket launch Pyongyang will eventually develop better missiles, and "we can't allow it to happen"'.

President Donald Trump did not appear to be ruling out military action against North Korea if the communist country pushes forward with another nuclear test. And I can tell you also, I don't believe that the president of China, who is a very respected man, will be happy either, ' he went on. "I don't think he's irrational but I don't think he's concerned about the welfare of his people, to say the least". This was not a nuclear test, which he was expected to do three days ago.

Trump spoke to Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday about North Korea and his outreach to regional leaders aims to get "everyone in line backing up a plan of action" if the situation in North Korea deteriorates, Priebus said.

North Korea poses "a grave threat" not just to the United States and its Asian allies, but also to China, he said.

The sub has since departed but neither the USA nor the South Korean military would confirm its movements. "I just don't want people to know what my thinking is", Trump maintained.

"I don't know. I mean, we'll see", he said. The U.S. official, however, wouldn't confirm any meetings beyond ones with officials at U.S. Forces in Korea and the U.S. Embassy.

That means, he said, working with partners in the region and globally on enforcing current United Nations sanctions and perhaps "ratcheting up those sanctions even further".
