Odds of trading Richard Sherman not very good — Seattle Seahawks GM

Building the next phase of the Seahawks begins with draft

We could talk about anything.

Seattle Seahawks trade rumors have been addressed by general manager John Schneider.

This is just an interpretation, of course.

Schneider also said that it's his understanding that Marshawn Lynch's representatives are still talking with the Oakland Raiders about a deal that could land the now retired running back with his hometown team.

There wasn't a "we're not the same without Richard" or "any issues we had are behind us".

"Right now we've kind of moved past it and if somebody calls and goes insane with something, then we'll discuss it again". "And if somebody calls and goes insane with something, then we'll discuss it again".

That doesn't sound as if Sherman and management had a tear-filled breakthrough that ended in a warm embrace. I mean, the guy's one of the top cornerbacks in the league.

The Sherman situation has hung over the Seahawks since Schneider first acknowledged last month that the club had trade discussions with other teams regarding the outspoken, former All-Pro cornerback.

It's hard to imagine a GM even floating those ideas if he wasn't still open to making a deal.

"Speaking on the WE Day stage and hearing the fearless and inspiring stories of youth across America who are making a difference, has given me strength to speak publicly about my own story in my new book Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me" said Golden Globe nominated actress and author, Lily Collins. But I was asked a direct question.

There are a couple ways to react to this answer.

Schneider's comments suggest Sherman, who has played for the Seahawks since they drafted him in the fifth round out of Stanford in 2011, will be back for a seventh season. "You don't just give him away". So in that sense, Schneider's candor wasn't insulting - it was just honest and reflective of both sides' interests. It will also help the Seahawks defend another NFC West title and try to get back to the NFL Playoffs.

"No, because of the open communication that we have". So I don't really think we didn't think there was anything to hide.

This is where things get a little murkier. The 29-year-old's fellow Legion of Boom members, safeties Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas, were there as well. A fresh start means nothing if you're playing for the Browns or another cellar dweller, which could be where Sherman ends up.

As casually as they came up, the Seahawks sort of dismissed the Richard Sherman trade rumors yesterday.

And that's what Sherman has been doing since starting in Seattle.

My guess is the Seahawks are still very much open to dealing Sherman. So it's not out of the realm of possibility that a team makes a play for Sherman by offering the Seahawks a draft pick or two. But once that's established, they have to make him feel as welcome as his hypothetical new team would have.

On having said that Sherman may have needed a new spark: "A spark". But if somebody comes cruising along and something happens and we do something, it happens.
