Trump welcomes Patriots to White House; Brady no-shows

Donald Trump Celebrates NFL Champions 30 Years After Suing LeagueMore

President Trump on Thursday blasted the New York Times' "big lie" for posting contrasting photos of the crowd size at the Patriots' Super Bowl celebration at the White House.

Presumably to further help out the Times, the Patriots posted their own version of "comparable photos".

The New York Times first pointed out the stark difference between photographs of the event this year, and those from 2015, the last time the Patriots won the Super Bowl.

"These photos lack context", the Patriots tweeted. Hightower said he had "been there, done that", after he visited the White House as a member of Alabama's national championship team in 2012.

On the day of the New England Patriots' White House visit to celebrate their Super Bowl win, Gisele chose to post a message that made her political stance quite clear. Thirty-six players attended in 2002.

"Patriots say (number) of players was smaller this year than 2015, but total delegation was roughly the same", the publication wrote.

"Every time we've had the privilege of going to the White House, a dozen of our players don't go", Kraft told the "Today" show. "Today, we had 34".

Trump's welcome to the team was coming hours after the news from MA prisons officials that ex-Patriot tight end Aaron Hernandez hanged himself in his prison cell.

Meanwhile, The Times has revised its initial story online as well, saying that while an earlier version of the article included both photos "comparing the size of the Patriots' gathering at the White House in 2015 and the gathering on Wednesday".

The president accepted gifts from Kraft and Belichick during the ceremony, a personalized No. 45 Patriots jersey and a team helmet matching the ones used during the Super Bowl.

A Patriots spokesperson said many players "did not see the need to go twice in three years". Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady is also friendly with the president but didn't attend the ceremony, citing personal matters with his family.
